Wanted to get this out to you! Electronic Assembly parts at decent prices that can be found at sites below, Comaprasions of parts quality and price were the factors in choosing the parts below. Others may have their preferences, but others don't have the luxury, or pocket books to pay $2.50 for a socket! UPDATED 9-11-04---3-27-2005---7-7-2005---8-6-2005
Prices may have gone up a bit, but still same quality items for basic and advanced Prototype Assembly.

RMA Flux Pens $3.80 look in soldering section of catalog
Hookup wire: ALPHA #24 AWG solid core $10.44/100ft. roll – MOUSER has the best price I can find. There is one I am trying to find that has insulation that won’t melt as much as this type when soldering it, but this is the least expensive 100 ft. roll I can find.
SMD PLCC SOCKETS???
Trying to find one having leads protruding past socket, for easier soldering, and probing.
I have seen them, but can’t find them right now.
Panasonic caps and resistors are the choices in this catalog, for both SMD and leaded parts.

Use to make SOIC to DIP adapters, pullup packs, or other types of component arrays. Has a socket with little forks to put parts across the pins. Use Proto-Chip board to make the SOIC to DIP adapters. See the links on http://protoboards.theshoppe.com to the corkboard for instructions on how to do this.
Xicon resistors and caps here are the best buy for leaded and SMD parts.
Solder and flux pens are here also, in the soldering section.
Remember to see the soldering article on the website, it has been updated recently. I hope to add more to it over the years. Maybe I should write a SMD assembly handbook?
It pays to shop around for best prices. ALL Students AND ENGINEERS should learn this, as it acquaints them with part #’s, searching catalogs, and data sheets for parts, and shopping for best prices. Companies are always trying to save $$, and cut costs. These are some of the parts I have found to be low cost and usable for prototyping boards.
Other places to look : Jameco, Electronic Express, Newark, Allied, and the electronic distributors found in the web search using google.com or any of the electronic parts search engines.
Web-EE.com has one. Arrow, Avnet, Future, RS Electronics, are distributors,
Contact East and Techni-Tool are other suppliers of tools and lab equipment.
Surplus electronics parts are available also!!! Ebay, and other auction sites too! Do not be afraid of using search engines for pats and sources. Just try shorter, or longer, and different names for the same things.
HMC Electronics, is a good source for Metcal soldering items on the cheap, and other supplies. Check the Ebay stores, and look up surplus electronics on google.
